If we really want to understand who we are for God, then we first need to know what He thinks about us. When God looks at us, He does not look at all the things that we are not, or that we haven’t accomplished yet. He looks at us the way He created us. He sees in us a “destiny”, to be developed. God sees us as a king, a prince, and a priest in spirit.
Genesis 1:26-28 says: “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule… So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule…”
God wanted to share everything that He had with us; to share His Kingdom with us. Adam and Eve were perfect, but not mature, and so God the Father, was going to teach them to mature. He placed them in the Garden to teach them how to rule.
God wanted us to be rulers from the beginning
He wanted to share His glory, His throne, with us. I seriously believe that Satan, who was a Cherub very close to the Throne of God, got upset when he found this out. God told the angels that they were going to serve Man. The Angels were created for those who are to inherit salvation. (Hebrews 1:14). They were to help us to become what God wants us to become! I think that Lucifer just did not like that! From the very beginning he has tried to make us believe that we have no worth! Satan uses “religion” that teaches that you will become better and better, little by little, so that you can then be in the presence of God. But, without the Redemptive work of Christ, we cannot be in His presence.
God gave dominion and authority to Adam and Eve. They lost that when they yielded to Satan’s temptation. Satan did not have any authority over the Earth. When Adam and Eve fell, the World came under the dominion of Satan. We think that the fall was only related to Adam and Eve, but it did not only affect their personal lives, but also Nature. It started to change as well. God said, because of you, the earth is cursed.
But, Christ took back all dominion from Satan! What part can we have in that?
